Obituary of Phyllis "Flip" DeNova
Phyllis graduated from East Side High School where she made many life-long friends, including the love of her life, Anthony “PeeWee” DeNova Jr. The couple wed in Paterson on December 2, 1951. In 1964 they moved their family to North Haledon and lived happily there until her husband’s passing in 1992. In 2005 she survived the passing of her daughter, Karen.
Phyliss is survived by her children, daughter Maryann Russo and her husband Robert of Hawthorne, daughter Linda Antonucci and her husband Jim of West Milford, and son Anthony DeNova III and his wife Lucy of North Haledon; and her grandchildren Danielle Russo, Christina Ettore her husband Michael, Ashely Galletta and her husband Jordan, Nicole Kasak, Natalie Pietrasiak, Anthony DeNova IV, James DeNova, and great-grandson Damien Pietrasiak. Her famous pesto and delicious stuffed artichokes will be missed by the entire family, especially her grandchildren, who loved Grandma “Whippy’s” care packages.
She is also survived by her sister Fortuna Marino and her husband Harold, her brother-in-law Joseph DeNova and his wife Dorothy, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends, especially at monthly card games, cousins’ luncheons, and the many other social activities she enjoyed. She loved playing Words with Friends, and those who played with her have lost a great competitor.
